In general, overhead cranes are always designed with 1 or 2 cross girders. They are similar in appearance, but which one should we choose from the both? That is the question. For example, single girder crane is less durable than double crane is one of the common misconceptions. In fact, double girder overhead cranes can provide greater hook height, but are no more than durable than single girder cranes.

1. Hook lifting capacity.
Hook lifting capacity is the real and most significant difference between single girder and double girder overhead crane, 
2. Hook height.
Hook height means that how far above the floor your hoist will lift. In general, double girder can provide better hook height and more hoist lift, whose reason is that on double girder cranes the hoist is placed between the cross girders, not under the cross girder.
3. Cost consideration.
Of course one single girder crane will be inexpensive than double girder crane in many ways:
Only one cross girder is in demand, installation is quicker, the trolley is simpler, the runway beams are lighter, freight costs less.
