The connection methods, advantages and disadvantages of steel structure
The steel structure is the basic component which is made up of connecting the steel plate and section steel, such as beam, pillar and truss. After delivering to the construction site, to join and install it accomplish the overall steel structure. The joining procedure plays an important role in the steel structure which will directly impact the installation, economy and functions.
There are lots of joining ways whose design can totally meet the principles that safety and reliable, economic, simple structure, easy to installation.
The joining ways of the steel structure include welding, bolt connection, rivet joint and pin connection. The bolt connection contains ordinary bolt and high strength bolt. The ordinary bolt connection has been an important way since Mid 18th century. The rivet joint emerges in 1820s, the after 1850s the welding technology occurred. Since the 1950s the high strength has developed as a new method.

The welding is widely used in steel structure connection.
Advantage: Applicable to all kinds of geometry shapes, economic, facilitate to production process, automatic operation,high stiffness.
Disadvantage: The high stiffness leads to out of shape easily. The welding seam has strong susceptibility to the low temperature.

Advantage: Reliable, high toughness and plasticity,easy to maintenance and safeguard. It’s specially for the heavy duty steel structure.
Disadvantage: Complex structure, large steel consumption, Huge construction trouble and noise
3 Ordinary Bolt Connection
Advantage: Facilitate to load and unload, simple structure.
Disadvantage: To the large extent, the steel structure is influenced by the bolt.
4 High strength Bolt Connection
Advantage: The perfect toughness and plasticity , high reliability, disassembly and endure fatigue.
Disadvantage: The process craft is a little complex, high manufacturing cost, easy to loose with the dynamic power.
5 Pin Connection
Advantage: Reliable power transmission, high toughness and plasticity, perfect wind-resistance.
Disadvantage: High manufacturing and process expenses
