The gnawing rail is a common phenomenon in the process of production usage which also has been a problem affecting the normal operation. The mainly reason that the overhead crane gnawing the rail is that the wheel flange of the crane or the trolley installed on the traveling mechanism contact the flank of the track end which will cause the serious friction and leading the wear and deformation of the wheel flange quickly in the operating process. Meanwhile it will wear and tear the rail side seriously. At least it will lead to the track friction, worst of all, it will result in the track severely deformed. The gnawing rail will cause the following conditions:

1, The rail abrasion. The gnawing rail will increase the wear extent of the rail, worst of all, it will make the rail fail to use and replace the rail with new ones.overhead crane

2, Shorten the lifespan of the wheel. Under the normal circumstances, the lifespan of the rail is more than 10 years. However while the gnawing rail phenomenon occurs, the life of the rail is just available at most 1 year. For some special condition, it only takes several months to replace the rail. In the case, not only the operation efficiency is reduced, but also the maintenance cost will be increased.

3, Increase the running load. The running difficulty of the crane with gnawing rail is 2-4 times more than the normal crane. Due to the increased running resistance, the motor and transmission mechanism are operating under the overloading condition. Seriously it will burn out the motor or broke the drive shaft.

4, The impact for the track plate. As the gnawing rail in the crane traveling process happens, there will be inevitably produce the level of lateral force. In the long period, it will result in the displacement of the rail and loose the bolts used for fix the rail. Then the plate clips off and make the rail deformed severely, furthermore causing a huge shock while the crane is traveling.

5, Result in the derailment risk. When the rail joint gap is too large and the gnawing rail is severe, the crane will climb to the rail top and cause the derailment accident.
